Bakers Selected as Finalists in Two Categories for 2023 Awards

We are delighted to be announced as finalists in the Digital Labels and Packaging Awards 2023 in two categories: Self Promomotional Print and Future Star

The awards ceremony is to be held on Thursday 29th June at the Kia Oval Stadium and we’re excited to attend with friends and peers from within the print industry. See a full list of finalists for all categories here.

Future Star Award

Our double entry for the Future Star awards sees our Baker brothers, Harry and Tom Baker, shortlisted together.

This award is for any employee under the age of 30 within the supply chain, who is set to play a key role in the future of digital package printing. 

As a duo they bring both an exciting dynamic and a necessary balance that compliments each other and the Bakers business. At Bakers, Harry and Tom have entirely different roles. Harry is all about sales and operations within the flexible packaging division, BakPac, while Tom’s focus is on finance and development of staff and business. But they share a common energy, drive and intelligence that is recognised throughout the company and beyond into the wider print industry. There is absolutely no doubt that both are set to play key roles in the future of digital label and packaging printing.

Self-Promotional Print Award

This year, Bakers is celebrating our 50th anniversary. With half a century of experience, we are extremely confident in our knowledge and abilities. While we like to tell everyone how great we are at printing labels, we find that the best way to showcase our expertise is to provide tangible examples. Our sample pack contains five sets of digitally printed labels, most of which feature digital embellishments. The aim of this pack is to demonstrate the full range of our capabilities and how embellishments can enhance and bring a ‘wow factor’ to a label.

Entries for this category must not have been produced for sale directly to customers and consumers, rather showcase the work** of a printer for its own branding and marketing initiatives.”

Trade Label Printer

As a trade printer, our samples must be unbranded and feature a variety of industries so that our customers can show them to end users. The pack also includes information on the printing and finishing process, giving our customers a full understanding of the materials, machines, and finishing methods used to create the final product. We have also created sales toolkits to accompany the samples, providing talking points for our customers when they advise end users.

Pouch Sample Packs

The BakPac sample pack, like our Baker Labels sample pack is sent to trade customers so our samples must be unbranded so they can be shown to end users. As these samples are created with no commercial purpose, we create designs which display the freedom of design space and highlights all of the products or industries that would benefit from flexible packaging. Within the pack there is an assortment of materials and finishes, so a clear picture of capabilities is shown to the receiver of the pack.

There are also specialty examples like coffee valves pouches, spouted pouches and environmental materials such as recyclable, compostable and kerbside recyclable. We also include a pouch which was printed using HP Mosaic and HP SmartStream Designer. It displays our printing capabilities, equipment, and the design possibilities for a pouch. Along with realistic packaging text, we also include flexible packaging information on some of the samples. This is due to many of our customers not having previous experience with flexible packaging and having learnt about BakPac through our Labels business.
