We walked to Tokyo!

Starting on Monday 1st of March staff at Bakers have been walking, jogging, running, cycling, swimming, and rowing their way from Essex to Tokyo. We hoped to cover the 5932 miles together before the day the Olympics starts on 23rd July but completed the challenge at the beginning of June

Using a Strava club, our miles were added collectively to the overall distance – it’s a long way and we needed to work together to get there.

Bring on the Competition

We don’t do anything here without a little bit of competition. Therefore each department within the company aimed to be the biggest contributor to the target. Would our Sales and Marketing Superstars smash the BakPac Bangers? Or will the Materials Mob leave the Digital Dudes for dust? Can the Digicon Dynamos go further than the Planning & Studio Posse or would the Admin Adventurers surprise us all and beat the Print Bureau & Despatch Destroyers?

What’s the route?

Our journey took us through Paris, Budapest, Istanbul, Cairo, Mecca, Islamabad, New Delhi, up Mount Everest, Beijing, and Seoul before reaching Tokyo. At every check point we enjoyed local treats to celebrate. (Even those not doing the miles enjoyed the treats!)

Wellbeing at Work

47 of us took part, completing 2147 activites. After the cold. dark lockdown months it proved to be excellent motivation and encouragement to get outside for fresh air and exercise. Now we need a new challenge!
