Bakers supports Georgia’s Teenage Cancer Appeal

Baker’s Self Adhesive Label Co Ltd has confirmed long term support to Georgia’s Teenage Cancer Appeal by funding one of the charity’s projects with up to £3000 a year.

About the project:

  • Since 2009 Georgia’s Teenage Cancer Appeal (GTCA) has provided taxis for young patients receiving treatment for cancer at UCLH and the MacMilllan Centre in London to main line London stations.
  • This allows them the swiftest journey home to surrounding counties such as Essex without having to use public transport from hospital to station where they are more at risk of catching infection following chemotherapy.
  • Depending on their condition not all patients qualify for an ambulance to take them home after treatment and those that do often face very long, uncomfortable journeys with multiple drop offs for other patients. An ambulance is not permitted to drop patients at stations. A taxi to the station is the best option in most cases.
  • The charity’s account with Spotty Cars taxi company has an average bill of £250 a month, up to £3,000 a year.
  • The project was instigated by Georgia Cordery and her parents when they realised it was the best way to get home to Brentwood following several days of her receiving treatment. London taxis are expensive so the option isn’t viable every time for many families who are already struggling with the costs of living with cancer.
