New Staff Gym Installed at Baker Labels

This October Baker Labels built on their employee wellbeing programme with the new installation of a workplace gym. Free to use by all Bakers employees, the gym is outfitted with both cardio and strength equipment plus space for floor workouts such as yoga.

The ambitious installation in the wooded area at the edge of the staff carpark took a couple of months and wasn’t free of hiccups and delays, including tree felling. It was worth the effort though and is used every day by staff of all ages from across all departments.

Gym Induction

Staff wishing to use the gym must first complete an induction to ensure they are aware of how to use the equipment safely, as well as being appraised of the usual gym etiquette. By booking in time slots, employees are free to use the gym before and after work or during breaks.

“Having access to a gym at work is brilliant. I’ve got no excuse not to go now and have made the most of the new kit.”

Healthy competition for cycling the furthest in 20 minutes and rowing the fastest 5km have proved to be excellent motivators. The gym has encouraged employees to support and train each other, strengthening friendships and building new ones.

“Being able to do a yoga or aerobics class during my lunch break has helped to break up the working day and given me a boost for the afternoon tasks.”

Wellbeing at Work

The installation of the gym is more evidence of our commitment to our employees’ wellbeing. A few of the other wellbeing initiatives we run at Bakers are:

  • Free fresh fruit delivered twice a week
  • Bakers Academy for personal professional development
  • External counselling support
  • Range of regular staff social events, including quiz nights, fun runs, bingo nights and bowling.
  • Staff book club

In November 2021 Baker Labels were awarded both Brentwood Employer of the Year and Active Essex Active Workplace of the Year.
